During the post-Roman age local magnates were building the economic foundation through the efficient manorial system of agriculture. Especially in the Norman dynasty, the Doomsday Book made the object of taxation clear. In order to achieve a stable profit, husbandry manuals played a decisive role in lay and ecclesiastical estates of late medieval and early modern England.
